2 Timothy 1:7
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Fear is not the final voice over your life.
Bible Verses
A Bible-based answer to what God says about fear, with verses for courage, God's presence, peace, and trust.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Fear is not the final voice over your life.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God.”
God answers fear first with His presence.
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.”
This short verse is easy to pray when fear rises quickly.
“Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed.”
Courage is rooted in the Lord being with His people.
“Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
Jesus speaks directly to the troubled and fearful heart.
“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?”
Courage grows when God becomes larger than the threat.
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
This passage invites you to bring worry into prayer instead of carrying it alone.
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
God does not ask you to hide your burden. He asks you to give it to Him.
“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.”
Jesus brings anxious thoughts back from tomorrow into today's grace.
“In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.”
God's comfort meets the mind when thoughts feel multiplied.
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
Peace grows as the mind is fixed again on God.
“And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
God's peace guards both the heart and the mind.
“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.”
Peace reaches even the vulnerable moment of sleep.
“The Lord bless thee, and keep thee: the Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee.”
This blessing ends with the Lord giving peace.
“Those who fear the Lord trust in the Lord, who is their help and shield.”
“They had all seen him and were terrified. But at once he spoke with them, 'Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!'”
“You are my refuge and shield; in your word I hope.”
“But I trust in you, Lord; I say, 'You are my God.'”
“In him our hearts rejoice; we trust in his holy name.”
“My strength and my courage is the LORD, and he has been my savior.”
“Whoever does accept his testimony certifies that God is trustworthy.”
“He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.”
“Those who know your name trust in you; you never forsake those who seek you, LORD.”
“Therefore we will not fear, though the earth be shaken and the mountains plunge into the depths of the sea,”
“The LORD helps them and rescues them, rescues and saves them from the wicked, because they take refuge in him.”
“Be strong and steadfast; have no fear or dread of them, for it is the Lord, your God, who marches with you; he will never fail you or forsake you.”
“The following night the Lord stood by him and said, Take courage. For just as you have borne witness to my cause in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness in Rome.”
“He said: Pay attention, all Judah, inhabitants of Jerusalem, and King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: Do not fear or lose heart at the sight of this vast multitude, for the battle is not yours but God's.”
“Say to the Lord, My refuge and fortress, my God in whom I trust.”
“You, Lord, protect us always; preserve us from this generation.”
God answers fear directly and repeatedly in scripture. Isaiah 41:10 says 'Fear not, for I am with you' — not because danger is absent, but because God's presence is the greater reality.
Scripture does not tell you to stop being afraid because fear is irrational. It tells you not to fear because God is with you. Isaiah 41:10, Joshua 1:9, and Psalm 23:4 all anchor courage in God's nearness, not in changed circumstances.
2 Timothy 1:7 says God has not given a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. Fear is replaced — not by willpower, but by what God provides in its place.
Isaiah 41:10 is one of the clearest passages: God says 'Fear not, for I am with you.' His presence is the answer to fear.
Scripture does not shame fear. It acknowledges fear is real and repeatedly responds with God's presence, courage, and peace — not condemnation.
